How it all began…
Beowulf Lived and Geatland and he had heard terrible stories of what was going on across the oceons from where he lived. He heard stories of a horrible monster named grendel that was attacking and terrorizing the Danes every night. He put it upon himself to go over to the Danes and end their suffering.

When he arrived at the shores of Hrothgars Lands he was stopped and asked who he was. This was an amazing opportunity for Beowulf to boast about himself. He presented himself and began to talk of all his victories and fights against monsters he had and won. After he was finished Hrothgar recognized him because he had history with his father.
Beowulf promised to kill Grendel and in return Hrothgar promised him gold and treasure. From here on Beowulf made plans to attack Grendel and awaited the night to come to kill Grendel.

That night when Grendel attacked he was taken by suprise when Beowulf began to fight against him. Grendel had an intense fight agaisnt Beowuld but out of no where with mighty strength and ripped off his arm. Grendel ran home and died soon after. Grendels mother was furious and she was heart broken to see her son dead. She became vengful and she was ready to kill on sight.

Beowulf was once again running to help the Danes after Grenels mother took Hrothgars closest friend and killed him. Beowulf entered the beasts home and began to fight her. The fight was long and she managed to rip through some of Beowulfs armor, But Beowulf took a sword he found in her home and Slayed her with it. Her head rolled off and There was Grendel and his mother both dead on the floor.

Beowulf was awarded the gold and treasures he was promised and Went home. Later, the king of the Geats passed away and left no heir so Beowulf was crowned king. Soon enough a dragon began to terrorize the geats and Beowulf being old still set out to kill the dragon.

When Beowulf entered the Dragons cave and woke up the monster his soldiers all left except Higlac. He stayed behind and helped Beowulf fight the dragon. When Beowulf was trying to slay the dragon he was bitten. Finally Higlac managed to distract the dragon and Beowulf cut the monster in half. However, once it was all over Beowulf sat down and whispered his final wish to higlac and went in peace.

The Anglo-Saxon people were Germanic Tribes that invaded Britain in 410CE. When the Anglo Saxon moved into these territories they established a language known today as old-english. They lived in small villages like the one you see above, and men and woman had different roles to fulfill.
one thing the Anglo-Saxon were known for was their poetry. For example Beowulf is one of their most recognized pieces of poetry.
in the Anglo-Saxon culture there was a king. however, his power was limited and he could not make new laws. He was in charge of keeping the “ancient Privileges” and customs.

-king Alfred
Woman during the Anglo-Saxon time period had a lot more privileges and freedom than other woman in other civilizations and communities. They had the right to own land, rule if their husband passed, and she had the freedom to chose if she would get married or not and everything she bought into the marriage remained hers.
